Blizzard finally announced the new race for the Alliance in the upcoming expansion. Partially in line with popular speculation, they have turned out to be the Draenei, but not as we know them. Here's the low-down.No word yet on The Draenei's racial abilities, though paladin and priest are obviously available as class choices. Additionally, hunter Draenei will be possible, as a member of the race is portrayed in Dragonstalker gear in a screen shot.

Honestly, I am hoping that with the addition of the blood elves, the 5:1 ratio of alliance to horde might swing back the other way. If this happens I think PvP will be much more fun, ... the the wait times a little shorter. The level 70 cap will make things very interesting as well. I think that will allow 20-30 man runs to MC, solo or 2 man loot runs to places like Strath, Scholo, etc. Could be interesting. Should be great anyway it falls out. ~Tado

There are many on the Horde side of the fence who were outraged at the addition of the Draenei to the Alliance, perceiving it to be yet another "pretty" race added to the Allied roster.
I wasn't too interested in the expansion, until they released the Alliance race. They just had to go and create a whole race geared towards the Light... I will be rolling a Draenei Paladin as soon as I can.

Expansionist policies are an outrage! I have enough issues with the current version of WoW, an expansion doesn't interest me. My two mains are night elves, and I like it that way. Blood elves, Drainiey eyes, or whatever... I'm not even that familiar with the Warcraft world beyond the first two games. This was just the multi player other friends were playing so I joined in! A flying mount would be nice, but can it fly over water? No race is truly dedicated to the light, everything is corrupted. See, a kewl race would have been some sort of half giant viking, but, I don't know about the Warcraft world as well so who knows where they fit. Am I rambling? You bet! Personally, I spend enough on this game, and I am not interested in spending any more. I should go play Auto Assault... but then I'd miss all you great people. Well, I'd miss most of you anyway.

Ok, so the whole race isn't dedicated to the light. Mage is another class that will probably be available.
And taken from some demo videos, the Draenei currently have the following racial traits (Subject to change, of course):
+15 to Jewelcrafting Aura that gives +1% chance to hit with a spell +10 Shadow Resistance Heal over time spell (Scales with level, on par with Renew/Regrowth)

Equipment will be found that contain empty slots, into which gems can be placed. These gems will provide additional bonuses to the piece of equipment they are placed in, very much akin to the gems from Diablo 2.
Example bonuses include +% spell crit, +stamina, +% chance to hit, +defense, and even more exotic things like weapon procs.
Additionally, jewelcrafters will be able to create rings and neck items, as well as a few trinkets.
