As many of you may be aware, there was test of steel and honor last night between Elder Maclaugh and Seeker Ayric. Here is the story: After much deliberation by members of the guild as to who is the "worst" Paladin in the land and since our brave leader Thairos was resting in the inn Mac nominated Ayric. Ayric's response was simply that even the worst Paladin is better than the best Warrior. I took some small offense to this accusation but my head is bald and thus insults easily slide off. Of course, Elder Mac could not stand by and let his honor be impugned so he challenged Ayric to a duel at the grand entrance of Ironforge. I sat on my horse to watch the spectacle and make sure the fight was fairly fought. Now, I must say that Ayric has fought many battles against the Horde in the snowy valleys of Alterac and the dusty plains of Warsong Gulch. So many battles that he has gained the rank of Knight within the grand Army of the Alliance. Mac, is no mutton soup either of course....he has taught this old warrior a lesson or two time and again. I have the bruises to prove it. The stage was set for a dramatic duel against two of the Guards' finest. I should also mention that it was questioned why Humans must always fight in order to prove themselves. Belber offered the most logical explanation: "they have Gnome envy." I wish I could tell the story of an epic duel that tested both heroes to their limits.....but I cannot tell such a story here. Ayric quickly dealt Mac mortal blows to the head which stunned him profoundly. The mighty Paladin struck without mercy while Mac tried to recover from the opening salvos of crushing pain as he returned massive strikes of Warrior rage. Ayric was bruised and somewhat bloodied (it may have been Mac's though), but he claimed victory quickly and convincingly. I of course, thinking my shield would protect me against Ayric's wrath, challenged him to a duel expecting to defend the honor of all Warriors. I too was grossly outmatched by brother Ayric's strength and quickly conceded defeat. It was a bad day for us Warriors, but a great day for Paladins. I have learned my lesson....never tick off a Paladin....especially Ayric!
